MW3 Minot Hawthorne error reappears, player accounts appear to reset to level one

Uh oh. It's happening again.

Don’t be alarmed, Call of Duty gamers. Your account probably hasn’t actually been reset to level one.

A Modern Warfare 3 error has reared its ugly head this afternoon, and it appears to have set player accounts to level one. The Minot Hawthorne error has popped up before, and a similar issue happened earlier this year.

As CoD players attempted to log on this afternoon, they were met with the Minot Hawthorne error code and their account progression seemingly being totally lost. When this happened the last time, however, the bug was fixed and progress was restored.

This same sort of issue happened on April 9, 2024. Activision posted that the reset bug was caused by “a service outage that prevented progress from being tracked in various modes and features, including events, challenges, Battle Pass, SR, access to specific modes like Zombies, and more.” Hours later, the problem was fixed and account progress was back to normal.

Thankfully for CoD gamers, Activision confirmed today that the problem is temporary.

“A temporary service disruption that prevented some players from obtaining their profile data is recovering,” the company said. “Impacted players may notice missing ranks, progression, and unlocks, but rest assured no data has been lost, and full recovery is expected within the hour.”

It’s unclear if this issue is similar or something new entirely, but players can see that if they enter a game in MW3 or Warzone, their current level is still there. It appears this bug is more cosmetic than anything else.
