How to add gem sockets to gear in WoW Dragonflight

Gear up by adding these sockets.

In World of Warcraft Dragonflight, jewelers have the ability to upgrade pieces of gear, particularly necklaces, by adding gems that grant items additional stat bonuses. Though this benefit was unique to jewel crafters before Dragonflight, the profession’s talent tree has made this ability more sought after.

The first and easiest method of getting gem sockets is by purchasing a Tiered Medallion Setting from the auction house. These have three separate quality levels but should cost you roughly from 100 to 500 gold, depending on your realm.

You can also get gem sockets in Dragonflight by leveling up the Jewelcrafting profession to a baseline level and then crafting it. Players will be able to do this by crafting and crushing gems. After reaching 30 points, players will unlock the Tiered Medallion Setting. Players will need various reagents to craft a new socket, but these ingredients can easily be bought or acquired.

Tip: Buy all of the sockets!

If you buy a neck socket of each quality, you will be able to have a total of three neck sockets. However, you need quality three socket in order to place a third socket. You also need to use the socket after you have put the first two sockets in.

How to add gem sockets in WoW Dragonflight

With Tiered Medallion Setting, there are three different types of sockets that players can create. – – –

  • Tier one creates a socket for item level 385 gems.
  • Tier two creates an item level 400 socket.
  • Tier three creates an item level 415 socket.

To add gem sockets to your gear, simply click on Tiered Medallion Setting in your bag and then on the desired item.

In order to reduce waste, I advise you to craft the lowest level socket for an item that does not yet have any. Players can then add 400 and 415 item level sockets. It is also important to note that players can only add such sockets onto an end-game Dragonflight necklace, such as the Elemental Lariat.

Where to buy gem sockets in WoW Dragonflight

You are probably wondering where to buy gem sockets to maximize your gear. Well, here are some places to buy gem sockets in Dragonflight.

  • From the auction house: buying one of each quality will give you a total of three.
  • You can trade coins for sockets at the bottom of the Vault.

How to add three sockets in Dragonflight

You made a necklace, and it only has one slot in it. You are able to add up to three gem sockets to a necklace in Dragonflight. Make sure you have the Tiered Medallion Setting, which allows you to add one socket to an end-game Dragonflight Necklace.

  • One-star items can add one socket
  • Two-star items can add up to two sockets
  • Three-star items can add up to three sockets
Tip:

To save gold, use a two starred item for your 2nd gem slot and a three starred item for your 3rd gem slot.

Buying a necklace that already comes with a socket means that you do not need to add the first socket and can advance on buying socket two and socket three. To add a socket, open “Item Socketing” by pressing, Shift + Right Click on a socketed item.

The gems will be dragged into the socket and your gems will finally be applied to your item, maximizing the strength and overall, making you stronger for the battles ahead.
